The giant free community event will be held on Sunday,29th Jan 2017  from 10am, at Brighton Domain, and brings together a huge array of community & local organisations and stall-holders.  The stalls at the event will be selling a huge range of items, including jewellery, crafts, carvings, face painting, second-hand tools, art, photography, and a wide array of food.

The response to the Brighton Gala Day was inspiring for the small organising committee, who co-ordinate the event each year, with the help of a team of volunteers from the Brighton Surf Club, Green Island Lions Club and a number of private individuals . All support is critical to ensure event runs smoothly.

``The general idea is to give people a chance to have a great day out, without having to spend a whole lot of money. It's a fantastic attraction for families there are so many things to see and do, and so much fun to have”.

Along with being a valuable fund-raiser for the Brighton Surf Club, the event also gives many community organisations an opportunity to promote themselves and to raise funds.  The free entry event is made possible with the support of Lotteries Community fund, Dunedin City Council Events unit and Allied Press.

Performers will include Mr Yipadee , Ronald McDonald, Magician Jonathan Usher, Dunedin trials rider Blake Fox, and a full programme of musicians including Dunedin highly renounced Kelvin Cummings  .There will also be live displays by the city's emergency services including  NZ Police ,St Johns, Red Cross, and Otago Museum. Otago Helicopters will be on hand to offer scenic flights.  It is hoped that Otago Rescue Helicopter Trust will be able to make an appearance during the day, to give the public a chance to view one of the specialised rescue helicopters up-close. However this is dependent on the demand for its services.  Among the static displays of vintage and veteran fire trucks, Brighton Volunteer Fire Brigade and more.

With over10,000 people expected to head out to the Brighton Gala Day, parking could be an issue, and people may have to walk a wee  distance to the event, so please come prepared.
