Past Project: The Runciman Street Tunnel

The Greater Green Island Community Network (GGICN) worked to fund a mural using local artists and was a youth project.

The Runciman Street Tunnel was a project done together with artist, Jonathan Waters who taught 20 local youth how to design, paint and stencil the mural. The youth worked hard on this during the first week of their school holidays from 10am-3pm.

Mr. Waters, who has previously facilitated six mural projects, said he really enjoyed working with the students. “I think what inspired me the most was getting the opportunity to paint something of such a large scale with kids from the community who are directly affected by it. Their input is extremely relevant and they feel a strong connection to it,” he said.

The tunnel features the respective names of each side of the bridge “ABBOTSFORD” and “GREEN ISLAND”, with each young artist designing and painting one letter each. An official opening was held on Friday the 18th of October where more than 100 locals were in attendance.
