Greater Green Island Market Day 2025
Another fun Market Day was held on 6 December in the main Green Island shopping area with over 100 stalls offering an incredible array of goods - including designer clothing, jewellery, outdoor furniture, plants, pet treats, and so much more - there was something for everyone among the market-goers. Being so close to Christmas there was lots of Christmas gifts to buy, and Santa was seen mingling with the crowds giving out lollies and posing for photos. The weather played along and the sun was shining with a light breeze bringing out thousands of people to enjoy the day.
The food trucks were a highlight, with Citizens serving up juicy burgers, the popular curly fries, Churros Ole and Scroll Station delighting visitors with their irresistible treats. Old favourites like candy floss and ice creams were a hit with all ages.
The children’s area hosted by the Greater Green Island Youth Action Group was heaps of fun. Kids enjoyed games like giant Jenga, and free face painting.
The event was organised by the Greater Green Island Community Network (GGICN) with support from the Green Island Business Association, and we owe a huge thanks to the incredible team of volunteers who made it all happen. Their hard work and dedication ensured the day ran smoothly and was enjoyable for everyone.
From the moment the market opened, the area was buzzing with locals, and visitors from further afar catching up, sharing stories, and enjoying everything the day had to offer. “It’s such a wonderful event that really shows what Green Island is all about,” said one market attendee. “There’s something here for everyone, and it’s great to see so many familiar faces.” The strong sense of community was evident throughout the day and a highlight was seeing all the dogs that came along to enjoy the smells and socialisation.
Another highlight was the fantastic performances by local schools, whose students entertained the crowd throughout the day. Their energy and enthusiasm added a real sense of pride and celebration, and it was great to see families and friends cheering them on.
GGICN Manager, Ben McKenzie, said one of the things he loves is seeing the community in action, with friends and neighbours stopping to chat and spend time together throughout the day. “It’s really great to see the community come together,” he said.
Organisers of this year’s market noted a high number of stall registrations, with many vendors placed on a waitlist due to demand, and a lot of last minute enquiries for spaces. If you’re interested in being part of next year’s event as a stallholder or volunteer, we’d love to hear from you. Keep an eye on our website and social media channels for updates.
A big shout out to everyone who performed, participated, volunteered, or simply came along to enjoy the day. We look forward to seeing you all again next year for another fantastic Green Island Market Day in December 2026!
